About Our Spill Socks

Chemical Spill Socks

Maintenance Spill Socks

Maintenance Spill Socks

Chemical spill socks are designed to quickly contain, control and absorb hazardous liquid leaks and spills, preventing them from spreading across factory or laboratory floors and entering drains. They are flexible tubular barriers that can be wrapped around machinery, leaky drums and spills to minimise the effected area.

Maintenance Spill Socks

Maintenance spill socks are designed to quickly contain, control and absorb liquid leaks, drips and small to medium spills in industrial and workshop settings. They are primarily used to prevent hazardous fluids from spreading across floors and into drains.

Oil-Only Spills Socks

Maintenance Spill Socks

Oil-Only Spills Socks

Oil-Only spill socks are designed to quickly contain and absorb petroleum-based spills (hydrocarbons) whilst specifically repelling water. Because they are hyrdophobic (water-repelling), they are ideal for cleaning up oil on water surfaces as they will float even when fully saturated.

How to Use Spill Socks

Purpose and Design Features

  • Containment and barrier creation: They form a dam-like barrier to stop the flow of hazardous liquids
  • Rapid Absorption: They absorb liquids on contact, often used for acids, bases and unknown liquids. They also absorb several times their weight
  • Safety & Visibility: Their different colours (Yellow, White and Grey) indicate the type of hazard they are used for and help to reduce slipping hazards
  • Protection: Their flexible design allows them to be used around the base of machines, equipment, corners and placed along edges to absorb leaks, or prevent chemicals from spreading into high-risk areas
  • Durability: They typically feature a strong, tear resistant outer-skin to withstand industrial environments

How to use

  1. Assess & Protect - Identify the spilled substance (Chemical, Oil, Maintenance) and notify others. Wear the appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) via the spill kit if you have one (recommended). Stop the leak if safe to do so and cover any drains with seals.
  2. Contain the Spill - Place spill socks in a ring around the spill to create a barrier, working from the outside edge inwards to prevent further spread. Link socks together to form to continuous, effective containment wall. Gently press down on the socks to seal them to the floor and stop liquid from seeping underneath.
  3. Absorb the Liquid - Lay absorbent pads, rolls or cushions over the contained liquid (Pads recommended). Allow time for the material to soak up the chemical. Replace saturated absorbents with fresh ones until the spill is fully absorbed.
  4. Clean & Dispose - Using tongs or a dustpan, sweep the saturated absorbents (and any debris) from the outer edge towards the centre and into a disposal bag. Place all used materials, including PPE into the provided hazardous waste bag (if purchased the spill kit). Seal the bag securely, label it as a hazardous waste and store it in a designated accumulation area.
  5. Decontaminate & Restock - Clean the area with appropriate cleaners and disinfectants. Replenish your spill kit immediately for future use.
